Dish Network is the fastest growing and
most popular direct broadcast satellite
(DBS) service which broadcasts digital

Direct broadcast satellite, or DBS, is a
relatively recent development in the world
of television distribution. "Direct
broadcast satellite" can either refer to the
communications satellites themselves that
deliver DBS service or the actual satellite
television service. DBS systems are commonly
referred to as "minidish" systems.
Owned by Echostar. Dish Network was launched
in March 1996, and is DirecTV's primary
competitor in the United States. Dish
network became so powerful and popular that
it quoted a price to buy DirecTV but the US
department of Justice did not permit the
deal in fears of monopoly in the field
When dish network started out it used a
18-inch satellite dish called Dish 300 which
allowed subscribers to receive a signal from
one satellite location. Today, Dish Network
uses 20-inch satellite dishes called Dish
500, which allows subscribers to receive
satellite signals from two satellite
locations simultaneously.
Slightly larger dishes with the capability
of receiving signals from 3 satellite
locations simultaneously was later launched.
The dish 500 and the super dish are becoming
more common and popular because of its
increased value and ability to receive more
channels esp. international programming and
channels
In 2003, Dish Network began providing
in-flight satellite TV service to the U.S.
airline Song. In 2004, all selected music
channels from the Sirius Satellite Radio
audio pack were added to Dish Network's
lineup of audio-only channels. This was a
major leap forward for dish network
Dish network also is a partner with starband
to deliver broadband satellite internet
along with its television. dish network has
a weekly show called Charlie hosted by the
company’s ceo, .questions and queries from
customers are answered live and also new
launches and improvements with DirecTV are
showcased
In May 2005 echostar bought out voom
satellite tv ad added the first 10 original
voom HDTV channels to its line up. Rest of
the 11 channels will be added next year.
